The Sourceful Newsletter - Issue #21
NEW - WHO IS HIRING? WHO IS LOOKING?
In this unfriendly economy, we want to help connect Recruiters and Sourcers seeking new opportunities with the talent acquisition teams looking to hire. Please email us at help@sourcingcertification.com with the subject "For the Newsletter - Looking" or "For the Newsletter - Hiring."
We will be including your write-ups in future newsletters. Please be sure to phrase your goals in one paragraph outlining the details of what you are seeking.
For job seekers, these two articles might help:
· How I Read Your Resume: a US Recruiter Notes
· LinkedIn Profile SEO: How to Be Found
Job seekers (or anyone else) - here is one tip for improving your chances of being found on LinkedIn: edit your profile and ensure that all the values (like Industry) match a LinkedIn standard – pick them up from the menus if you can. Do this even if you have done this before because LinkedIn's standard values shift. Your profile should point to your company page. Your title better not be "Recruiting Ninja" or "Unicorn Hunter Sourcer." Best of luck!

Meta Platforms recently unveiled Llama 3, an advanced open-source large language model (LLM), which has garnered significant praise from developers and independent reviewers.
You can test it directly on Meta AI without needing to log in or create an account as an alternative to ChatGPT.
This latest iteration includes 8-billion and 70-billion parameters, outperforming similar LLMs from Google, Mistral, and Anthropic, as highlighted by Meta's blog and the LMSYS leaderboard. The 70-billion parameter version is particularly noted as the top open-source LLM, only surpassed by leading closed-source models.

AI Inventions in LinkedIn Collaborative Articles and Risky Strings.
LinkedIn's AI tells us, "Using Boolean strings in your recruitment process can be challenging and risky." "A lack of familiarity with the syntax and logic of Boolean strings can result in a steep learning curve and a high margin of error, leading to frustration and reduced search productivity." Is this a joke?
LinkedIn Assumes Skills, and It Is a Problem
When you search using the Skills filter on LinkedIn Recruiter, many results are based on “guesses” by LinkedIn - not skills users entered on their profiles. Those guesses are based on titles, companies, attached resumes, and even from members’ connections! Members don't even know what guessed skills are assigned to them. From our testing, there was a 97% overlap between members found by keyword search for javascript and the Skills search for the same term. To find members whose profiles actually claim a skill, use the secret operator skills: instead.
