Beyond LinkedIn: Discover Where the Hidden Talent Lives
Dear Readers,
This Thursday and Friday, I’m running a live training series that teaches sourcers and recruiters how to mitigate their dependency on LinkedIn.
If you’re tired of seeing the same recycled profiles — or wondering where all the non-LinkedIn candidates are hiding — this course is for you.
Details:
May 29 & 30, 12–1:30 PM Eastern
Live via Zoom (replay, slides, and more are included)

The Problem: LinkedIn Isn’t Enough
LinkedIn is the largest professional network in the world. But it can be a weak primary source for roles in healthcare, transportation, skilled trades, and other underrepresented industries.
When your entire strategy is based on LinkedIn and job boards, you're essentially fishing in the same pond as every other recruiter.
To truly level up, you need a broader sourcing playbook that works whether your ideal candidate has a LinkedIn profile.
A Mini-Lesson from the Course
Here’s a short example of the kind of practical learning we’ll cover.
How to Validate a Viable Alternative Sourcing Site
When exploring niche forums, association directories, or certification databases, ask yourself:
Size vs. Specificity - determine if there are enough potential target individuals to make the site worth your time (assess total userbase and percentage) of likely targets)
Level of Detail - how much information can you learn about someone from their activity on this site (looking for at least one of: expertise, work history, contact info)
Discoverability - what can you search inside the site? Does the site allow X-Ray search? If the content is indexable by Google, you can source it that way.
Bonus: are there patterns in URLs or titles for profiles or content? Patterns = scalable scraping or automation opportunities.
Engagement - can you ping, DM, or uncover direct contact (phone or email) from user profiles or activity? Even sites with weak discoverability can provide a vital communication channel when InMails go unread for months at a time!
Even seasoned recruiters overlook publicly available resources like:
License and certification lookup tools
Workforce services resources
Conference speaker lists
Professional association rosters
Companies’ websites
Community member directories (mailing lists, forums, Slack and Discord)
This is what I mean by “novel resources.” And we’ll walk through exactly how to find and use them live during the class.
